How do i let go someone in my band?

We have been frequently having problems with an egotistical guitarist, and he's not very good in at what he does. He doesn't take constructive criticism, he doesn't listen to our ideas, and he isn't grateful for any help we've received. He's a good friend at times, but it becomes too stressful to deal with him because he is also overly emotional and stubborn. He will not listen to the information we've received from very valid sources and listens to what his dad says instead. We have no idea how to let him go, because he's very pionate about the band, although he doesn't put much work into it. He is easily replaceable, and we know multiple people who could fill the spot better than him. We don't want him to become depressed, and we want to hurt him the least amount possible. Does anyone have any ideas of how to go about doing this? Thanks for your time :)
